Characters: Wylan Van Eck

"Isn't that how things are done around here? We all tell Kaz we're fine and then do something stupid?"

Wylan Van Eck is a sixteen-year-old runaway from a rich merchant family who joins the Dregs as a demolition expert. Wylan is the son of Jan Van Eck, so Kaz had originally recruited him as an insurance for the money they would receive from Van Eck. Wylan is considerate, caring and innocent, despite being a member of the Dregs. Due to his privileged upbringing, he is very knowledgeable and polite. He is curious and has knowledge on machinery and chemicals. He makes numerous explosives during the heist and creates distractions to aid the others. He is also skilled at playing the flute and drawing.

Wylan grew up in a wealthy merchant house with his father but was poorly treated by his father due to his inability to read. His father had ordered to have him killed to protect the family name, but he survived and joined the Dregs.

Wylan seems to have dyslexia and cannot read words. He is insecure about his condition which might be a result of the hatred his father had because of his inability to read or write.
