Characters: Matthias Helvar

Matthias Helvar is an eighteen-year-old Druskelle soldier from Fjerda. Druskelle are holy soldiers from Fjerda who hunt down Grisha to execute them for witchcraft. Due to his year in prison, he is cold and unforgiving. Even though he becomes more genuine during his time with the Dregs, he is still hot-tempered and angry. Kaz had originally recruited him for his knowledge about Fjerda and the Ice Castle. He is shown to be very patriotic at first and was hesitant to help the Dregs break into his country Fjerda. His training as a Druskelle has made him to be a great warrior and quick-thinker.

Matthias was taken under the wing of Druskelle commander and was one of the best in his ranks. He survived the Druskelle shipwreck with Nina and travelled together in the freezing winter using Nina’s powers. Nina later accused him of being a slaver and put him into Kerch prison. It is later revealed that Nina lied to protect him from other Grisha and had stayed back in Kerch to free him.

Druskelle: holy soldiers of Fjerda who hunt Grisha for execution.
